Porcelain veneers can re-vitalise an ageing or damaged smile
What are porcelain veneers?
A veneer is a very thin shell of porcelain custom made by our Dental Technician, which is first prepared by the Dentist who then bonds it to your natural tooth. Veneers improve the overall appearance of your smile and strengthen the underlying tooth structure.
Compared to ‘white fillings’, porcelain material has unsurpassed aesthetic properties, as it is stronger, more durable, stain resistant and reflects light like natural enamel!
Situations where porcelain veneers can be used
- Completely hide permanent dark staining of teeth (eg: tetracycline antibiotic staining)
- Eliminate gaps between your teeth
- Reduce overlapping teeth
- Hide a darkened tooth
- Improve the overall contour of your smile
- Whiten your smile
Limitations of porcelain veneers
Although porcelain veneers can work very well in certain situations it is not always indicated and case selection is paramount in determining and predicting long term success.
Scenarios in which veneers are not ideal include:
- Poor oral hygiene
- Not enough tooth structure left to bond a veneer
- The patient may have a heavy ‘bite’
- The gap to be closed is too big
Even if porcelain veneers are not an appropriate option, we are more than happy to explore other alternatives to address your cosmetic concerns.
